Rewards & Recognition
It is perfectly legitimate to ask what's in it for you, for taking the risk of engaging with Aurora-IAM. Life is full of distractions, and there has to be a reason to engage with something, especially when its benefits aren't immediately obvious. Everyone knows why they go to Amazon, or why you go to the supermarket. Why come to Aurora-IAM, and even more pertinently, why spend money there?
There was a time when a barren stretch of land was all that lay before the viewer. Why would you spend money on a barren stretch of land. Why not wait until it's DisneyLand and you can take your kids there? You know the reason why, or the several reasons why you might not want to wait.
If you define success by money, a legitimate enough measure perhaps, then you'll want to get ahead of the market. Catch the next thing before it becomes a thing. Get a stake in it... but there's no such thing as a sure thing, so you'll want a reward, and you'll want opportunities that reflect your risk profile. That's reason number 1: help us to succeed, to benefit financially. Fair enough, we'll address that.
Sometimes it's not for the money. In fact, you might even pay money without any expectation of reward. That's the early adopter. What you recognise is something ahead of its time, something novel. There's a feel-good factor, a certain pride in being ahead of the curve. We'll certainly want to address that. But a hint: we have a novel perspective on reward, so don't expect to only be a user with no appreciation for the critical contribution you make in the early days.
Not the last reason to participate, but an expression of relief or delight, that something difficult or troublesome has finally been put to rest. That squeaky door is finally silent, thanks to oil. You can finally recharge, thanks to a vacation. You can finally find the information you need, thanks to your latest organiser. Finally is a big deal, because we all like to do away with the frustrations and stresses of life. So yes, we'll certainly be addressing that.
Sometimes we do things because it's the right thing to do. Helping a little old lady cross the road. Giving something back to the community or society. Helping make a difference in other people's lives, perhaps young people just starting out. We'll definitely be covering that.
A variant perhaps on The Right Thing, but sometimes there's a circumstance that just isn't right. You feel the injustice, the indignation, but what can you do? Sometimes it's just too big to deal with. Well, we're definitely be going to touch on that, and here's a hint: sometimes a problem that's too big for ordinary methods to deal with needs something extraordinary, something bigger that can steamroller the problem you think is insurmountable. We're definitely going to be dealing with that.
This is a strange one. Who ever bought a T-shirt thinking they were fulfilling a commitment to personal integrity? But isn't that at the heart of every action. There's a reason we're called Aurora-IAM. IAM is a recognition of self. It's about acting with integrity towards that self. Whether you think you deserve certain attributes in life and society, we certainly do. And that's a big part of what Aurora-IAM will support. That's why it's in the name. We'll certainly be covering that.
Why are you here? I have no idea what your personal philosophy is, and no, I'm not talking about why are you here on this web-page. I mean what are you, why were you born, what is your purpose as a sentient being (or AI, if you happen to be reading this)? There are plenty of narratives as to what humans are: random chance meat-packets, divine children waiting to be saved, metaphysical beings gifted with a soul. Who knows? We all have our opinions, but the big question is: whatever your philosophy, do you want to move society and the world forward to something better? Or will you stick with the day-to-day, money, bills, personal well-being. There's no right or wrong answer, but if you're minded to make a difference, we'll definitely be dealing with that.
It may beggar belief that we feel that all of the above are important and relevant reasons to participate in Aurora-IAM. What story can be that big, that you should get involved for any and all of the reasons above. Not that we've justified them yet. We've simply laid them out to show that there's more than one reason to participate in a project. With Aurora-IAM, there's all those reasons, but you may only relate to a few. You only need one. In fact, it's difficult to imagine someone who has not a single one of those reasons to motivate them. We just need to let you see what we are, what we have in mind, and why those reasons apply.
