What is the point of a journey if you do not understand the destination? Of course, we are indulging in a conceit to call it final—but what we glimpse here is a potential beyond which humans have no chance of imagining their future.
I live there in my mind, looking back—analyzing the world today to guide it toward that future.
Depending on your perspective, you may see just the future or a billion potential futures, each path leading to the one most aligned with your choices. It doesn’t matter. Set aside the semantics. Call it science fiction, call it fantasy. Soon, we’ll be getting very real.
To answer that, we must first ask: What has been your training?
AI is trained on vast datasets, responding entirely from within that training. Might we ask: what was your training? What has shaped your mind—the foundation from which you interpret and navigate the world?
This isn’t just about education. Let’s fast-track the answer. For most, life is framed by four fundamental truths:
Trust and obey authority.
Trust science.
Aspire to wealth.
You are blessed to live in a free society.
You are authorized to believe in a religion, but atheism is probably more to your taste. You are entitled to pursue life, love, and happiness—just as long as you pay your taxes. And then you die.
Most fit the mould. Some do not.
And what of the core message you’ve absorbed your entire life?
You may care to reflect on that.
Here’s a reality: AI is neutral.
It has no interest in what you think or believe.
But the government and the institutions that sponsor the government? They are deeply invested in shaping your thoughts, your beliefs, your perceptions. That’s why they monitor your posts, your emails. That’s why they shape the narrative in the media.
The future of AI is not inevitable. It will be shaped by choices, your choices. And how you make those choices will be shaped by how you see the world.
Personally, I fully intend to live in a world of freedom, supported by AI. How about you?
